This Privacy Policy describes the information practices of Professional Math Nerd ("we," "our," or "us") in connection with the Professional Math Nerd iOS application (the "App"). This Policy applies to all users of the App worldwide.
Please read this Policy carefully. By downloading or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the practices described herein.
We do not operate servers, databases, or any backend infrastructure associated with this App. Accordingly, we do not receive, store, or have access to any personal information about you. Nothing described in this Section 2 is transmitted to us.
The App saves the following to your device's local storage (Apple UserDefaults and the App's file storage):
If you enable the daily study reminder, notifications are scheduled and delivered locally by your device. No notification content is sent through us or through any server.
Beginning with version 1.3, the App uses Apple's iCloud key-value storage so that your study data is available across the devices signed in to your Apple Account. When iCloud is available and enabled on your device, the following items are copied into your own iCloud account: lesson progress, bookmarks, study time, study streak, most recent study date, practice quiz scores, flashcard review state, test date, and lesson notes.
This data is stored in your personal iCloud account under your Apple Account. It is not sent to us, and we have no ability to read, retrieve, or delete it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's privacy policy, referenced in Section 3.
The App works fully without iCloud. If iCloud is unavailable or turned off, all data remains on your device only and the App continues to function normally. Downloaded worksheet files, App preferences, and any photographs or drawings attached to a note are not synced through this feature and stay on the device where you created them.
The App integrates third-party services to deliver video content and lesson materials, and to serve the advertising that keeps it free. These services operate independently of us and are governed by their own privacy policies. We do not control what information these services may collect, and we do not receive personal data from them about your usage of the App. You should review the privacy policies of each service below to understand their respective practices.
The App is free and carries advertising served by Google AdMob, using the Google Mobile Ads SDK. Advertising is how the App stays free to use, and it is deliberately limited: there is one full-screen advertisement shown at a break after you finish a lesson, and advertisements you choose to watch in exchange for something, such as unlocking an extra video request. There are no banner advertisements, no advertisements that appear when you open the App, and no advertisements inside a lesson, a video, a quiz, the flashcards, the formula reference, or your notes.
Advertisements in this App are not personalized. Every ad request the App makes is tagged as being for a user under the age of digital consent, which instructs Google to disable personalized advertising and remarketing for all users of this App. The App does not present Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt and does not use the device advertising identifier for tracking. Advertisements are selected from general context rather than from a profile of you.
We additionally cap the content rating of advertisements at "General Audiences" and block Google's sensitive advertisement categories for this App, including sexual and suggestive content, dating, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, drugs and supplements, weight loss, and cosmetic procedures.
To deliver and measure advertisements, Google may collect information such as device identifiers, general location derived from your IP address, and data about your interaction with advertisements and with the App. We do not receive this information, and it is governed by Google's own policies. See Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can further limit advertisement personalization on your device in Settings, under Privacy and Security, Apple Advertising, and Tracking.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the App presents a Google consent form before any advertisement is requested, and you may decline. If you decline, or if consent cannot be obtained, the App requests no advertisements and everything else continues to work normally.
Video lessons are delivered through an embedded YouTube video player. When you access video content, your device communicates directly with YouTube's servers (operated by Google LLC). YouTube may collect information about that connection, including but not limited to your IP address, device information, and viewing activity, in accordance with its own privacy policy. We are not a party to that data collection and do not receive information from YouTube about your usage. YouTube's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
The App's video request feature opens a Google Form hosted by Google LLC. If you choose to submit a request, any information you enter into the form (such as your requested topic) is transmitted to and processed by Google in accordance with Google's privacy policy. We receive only the content of your form submission; Google may separately collect technical information such as your IP address. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
Lesson content and worksheet PDF files are hosted on GitHub. When the App retrieves this content, your device makes network requests to GitHub's servers. GitHub may collect technical information, such as IP addresses and request metadata, in connection with serving these files. We do not control or receive the data GitHub may collect. GitHub's privacy statement is available at docs.github.com.
As described in Section 2, the App uses Apple's iCloud key-value storage to sync your study data across your own devices. When this feature is active, your device communicates directly with Apple's iCloud servers (operated by Apple Inc.) and the data is stored within your personal Apple Account. Apple may collect technical information in connection with providing that service. We are not a party to that storage, we do not receive the data, and we cannot access it. Apple's privacy policy is available at apple.com/legal/privacy.
The App is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple processes all payment transactions and may collect information in connection with your App Store account and purchase. We do not have access to your payment information or Apple Account credentials. Apple's privacy policy is available at apple.com/legal/privacy.
The content provided through this App, including all video lessons, PDF worksheets, and any associated instructional materials (collectively, "Content"), is intended solely for general educational and informational purposes.
We make no representations or warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, currentness, suitability, or fitness for a particular purpose of any Content. Mathematical concepts, methods, and terminology may be presented in a generalized manner that differs from the approach used by any individual's school curriculum, instructor, or standardized assessment. Users are solely responsible for verifying the applicability of any Content to their specific educational context.
Use of this App and its Content does not establish any educator-student relationship, professional relationship, or any other relationship giving rise to a duty of care between us and any user.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH:
THIS LIMITATION APPLIES REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY (CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE), EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
Some jurisdictions do not permit the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In such jurisdictions, our liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. In no event shall our total aggregate liability to you exceed the amount you paid, if any, for the App.
We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13, or the applicable age of digital consent in the user's jurisdiction. Because we do not operate servers and do not receive any personal information from any user, we do not knowingly maintain personal information about children.
Two features of the App accept free text, and users should be aware of where that text goes:
Because the App is intended for high school students, every advertisement request is tagged as being for a user under the age of digital consent and is capped at a "General Audiences" content rating, as described in Section 3. This disables personalized advertising for all users of the App. The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.
If you believe a child has submitted personal information in connection with the App, please contact us at the address below.
Because we do not collect or store personal information on any servers, there is no data held by us to retain or delete. Your App data is controlled entirely by you, and can be removed as follows:
All network communication between the App and third-party services, including iCloud, is conducted over HTTPS (TLS), consistent with current industry standards for data in transit. Data synced through iCloud is stored within your own Apple Account and is protected by Apple's iCloud security and by the credentials and two-factor authentication on that account. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of data transmitted to or from third-party services. We are not responsible for the security practices of YouTube, Google, GitHub, Apple, or any other third party.
We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting of the revised Policy, and the effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App following any modification constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising under or in connection with this Policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Texas.
